Rejoice, Pray, Give Thanks

Paul’s three short commands sound almost impossible: joy always, prayer without ceasing, thanks in every circumstance. But he is not asking for nonstop words or forced smiles. He is describing a life turned toward God: small prayers whispered through the day, gifts noticed in the middle of ordinary routines. Giving thanks in every circumstance is different from giving thanks for every circumstance. Even grief can hold a little gratitude.
