Terms of use

Last updated: [date of publication]

Welcome. One Candle is a quiet place on the web where Christians from many countries and traditions walk together in a small shared world, light candles, share prayer requests and pray for one another. These terms explain the agreement between you and the people who run it. We have tried to keep them short and plain.

1. Who runs One Candle

One Candle is operated by [Owner name / legal entity], [postal address] (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [Owner name / contact e-mail].

2. Who may join

3. Your account

4. Using One Candle well

Everything you write — your name, chat, prayer requests, candle intentions, messages and circle intentions — must follow our community guidelines. In short: be kind, respect every Christian tradition, never mock faith, and keep personal details out of public spaces.

You agree not to:

5. What you share

You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it in a shared space (chat, the prayer wall, a candle intention, a prayer circle) you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive permission to store it and show it to the people that space is meant for, for as long as it stays on One Candle. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies kept for a short time in backups or kept for moderation as described in the privacy notice.

Please remember that prayer requests and candle intentions you make public can be read by anyone in the world. Share only what you are comfortable with, and never share another person’s private details.

6. Moderation

To keep One Candle safe, all text passes through automatic filters, there are limits on how fast you can post, and posts from new accounts may wait for review. Volunteers and staff with moderator rights review reports and may hide or delete content, or mute, suspend or permanently ban an account. A restriction may sometimes apply without notice when it protects others (for example, content may become visible only to its author). Every moderator action is recorded in an internal audit log. If you think we got something wrong, write to [Owner name / contact e-mail] and a person will look at it again.

7. Prayer texts and content

The prayers, Bible verses and reflections in One Candle come from public-domain or original sources, listed in our asset records. They are offered for personal devotion. One Candle is not a church, does not represent any denomination, and does not offer pastoral, medical, legal or psychological advice.

If you or someone you know is in danger or thinking about self-harm, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your country right away. One Candle is not monitored around the clock.

8. A free service, offered as it is

One Candle is free, has no advertising and no payments. We work hard to keep it running and safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of mistakes, and we may change, pause or end features or the whole service. Where the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for what other people write. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer law of your country that cannot be waived.

9. Ending

You can stop using One Candle and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the guidelines, or when the law requires it.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we will say so in One Candle before the change takes effect. If you do not agree, you can delete your account; continuing to use One Candle means you accept the new terms.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of [country / jurisdiction]. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any disagreement in a friendly way. If you live in the European Union, you may also turn to the courts of the country where you live.
