Hail Mary
The first half of the Hail Mary joins the greeting of the angel Gabriel and the blessing of Elizabeth from Luke’s Gospel. The second half, a request for Mary’s prayers, was added in the late Middle Ages. It is the heart of the Rosary and the Angelus.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
